Outdoor Christmas Trees Easy Makeover

Hi Everyone! I can't believe that it's already the first week of December. This year I am feeling a little behind on gifts and decorating. I did go to Target the other day though and picked up some decorations. I have always loved the look of two small Christmas trees flanking the front door so when I saw a set of two porch trees at Target for 1/2 off, I had to pick them up and give them a simple DIY makeover.

Here is what you will need:
-Set of matching trees (artificial or real) You can find the ones that I bought from Target here.
-2 sets of 60 mini twinkling lights (available from Target here)
-2 packs of mini red velvet ribbons
-1 spool of red velvet ribbon
-extension cord and a double/triple outlet outdoor cord (triple if adding a wreath too)

If you get the same trees, I would open up the box at the store and check the bases. The first box that I got had a broken base so I had to go back and exchange it.

The trees come packed flat so you will need to fluff out the branches. The trees come with pre-lit lights  but not enough so I highly recommend adding some twinkling lights.

Add some warm white twinkling lights to each tree. 60 was the perfect amount of lights to cover the 3.5 foot tree. I love warm white lights over the clear white or cool blue because well, they just look so much more warm and inviting!
I picked up 2 packs of mini velvet bows from Michaels. You can also make your own. I also got some plain red velvet ribbon, green floral wire and a wire cutter.
Cut a small pice of ribbon and tie onto the center of the bow to cover up the gold twist ties.
By the time I got to Michaels, all of the plain velvet ribbons had sold out so I got this one with a silver trim.
I just folded both sides over so that the silver wouldn't show.

Tie in the middle. Or if you have more time, you can cut a small piece and just hot glue it on.

Trim the excess. (Only required if they stick out and are visible)
Make about 22 bows total - 11 for each tree and place them starting from the top and kind of eyeball the right spot.

Ah, so much better & festive!

Here they are plugged in indoors. I will be placing them outside my front door along with a wreath. Will update with an outdoor picture tonight!

These trees will also be perfect for a Christmas photo backdrop.

I'm in love with how the lights twinkle!

When do you start decorating for Christmas? Before or after Thanksgiving? Usually I try and respect the turkey but next year I may have to get an early start so that I can enjoy these pair of trees a bit longer!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season! :)
